rESTORATIVE PRACTICES
& CIRCLES
CIRCLES ARE AN INCREDIBLE GIFT FROM INDIGENOUS PEOPLES.
A circle is a ceremony of community.
Circles are a different way of being. A circle is a way of gathering intentionally, engaging and connecting with ritual and ceremony, purposeful prompts, explicit expectations, and inclusivity. Circles have been practiced in indigenous cultures for longer than we may have history to tell of it. Our ancestors gathered around fire for survival, for warmth, food, and community. This history still lives within the circle and within us. Circles are a powerful place for each of us to find warmth, nurture, belonging and connection.
Circles return us to ourselves and each other. They are simple yet sacred. They connect us to something bigger than ourselves, give us an opportunity to practice presence together, pause our socialized reactivity in exchange for mindful and intentional relationship. They are transformative.

Circles are a gift from Indigenous Peoples and a ceremony of community. They are a space where we return us to ourselves and each other. Circles are simple, yet deeply sacred. They connect us to something bigger than ourselves, give us an opportunity to practice presence together, pause our socialized reactivity in exchange for mindful and intentional relationship. They are transformative. This book is an attempt to share the circle keeping process that has transformed me over the last several years. It is intended to invite you into circle, into the soul of the process itself, and to support anyone interested in offering circle. We will explore the external components of circle and the internal practices that keep it sacred. It is based on my experiences holding over 150 circles over the last 5 years, in-person and virtually, personally and professionally, locally and nationally. It is a culmination of the teachings and trainings of many mentors, organizations, and ancestors that laid this path long before me. I hope that this book inspires reflection about relationship and connection as it offers deeper insight into the heart of circle. I encourage you to take your time in reading it. You deserve the space and grace to fully sink into the circle process. |
